decision making

I was so surprised that Prof.Kurpis sat and watched our big chaos in the class instead of being the leader of this debate. From the beginning to the end, we were given very few informations about this discussion. If we were asked to make a choise of curving or dropping the lowest grade, I think it will be much easier to do it. However, Prof. Kurpis gave us the opportunity to find our best solusion, but in the condition of a 100% agreement.

It is impossible to satisfy everyone since we all have different interests and situations, especially during the discussion about the format of our future exam. In this part, i was acting under "avoidance". I know everyone has equal opportunity and the right to compete, to win this debate. But in the very last few minutes we have at the end, we still couldn't have the final picture of our exam formact, and more and more different opinions kept coming out. I chose to accept any final solusion, instead of giving out new ideas. Because I think there is no way to get everyone's agreement on it for their self interests.

I agree that lack of sufficient time made our debate more difficult. but this certainly will be what is like in real world decision making: there will always be limits and restrictions in your decision making process and I think those are the things that make decision making really challenging task.

I think Professor Kurpis stood silently by for a reason, he was simply observing us as an experiment. To me, the class has a lot of immature people in it, but in the end, it was worth the drama I guess :-)

p.s. cute egg picture last post

I agree that because there were so many people in the class and each of us have our own way of thinking that theres bound to be a conflict of interest. What one feels is right might not necessary be the same for another. That's why the activity took the entire class and I think if we were given more time, the process would have just taken longer to complete. I think it's a good thing that there was a time constraint so it wouldn't be dragged on for any extended period of time.

"avoidance" I know most people are doing the same thing as you did, same to me also. There are more than 50 student in the class. It's very hard to come out with a decision which 100% of the people are adopting to it. So, I think you are doing the right thing.

The professor was getting us ready for a real life situation where some of the leaders will think that you have the management skills and let you behave like one.

It is at that time that you use your planning, organizing and controlling skills as a leader and try to make everybody come to an agreement.
