Blogging

I would say at the beginning of the semester I was so excited to know that we were going to have a blogging conversation for the class. I am a blogger and I always share my experience and options with friends on my own blog.
But after several blogging process I lost my interest in this activity. Every time I waited until the last minute to get in done. I don't have much motivation to do it. But I still have much fun reading others' blogs, especially those are related the activities we did in class.
I think if Prof. Kurpis brings our blogs to the lecture and let us share some interesting entries in class, or encourage us to write more own topics to say what we want to say, that would make the blogging assignment more effective.
However, comparing the blogging to a weekly journal essay, I would say I still prefer the blogging.

Time's running off the clock...

Chaos, chaos, chaos
My mail box is attacked by tons of mails
My metro card is lost in my house
My iPod is playing no sound
My poem is due tonight
Uh………
Tick, tock, tick
I have no time
I see people are running by my side
I am reading a book with no meaning inside
If life is just a book
Please don’t be the one let me cry
Give me a piece of cloud, let me fly
Fly away from the chaos
Sigh………
Talk, talk, talk
Please don’t tell me it is a simple talk
I tried whatever I can, right?
I just don’t want to tell a lie
Tell me what I can do
One, two, three, four, five…
1, 2, 3, 4, 5………
Time's running off the clock...

S--STEADINESS

There are not many S type person in our class. But I am one of those "S"s!
The personal profile system says that "S" person perform in a consistent, demonstrating patience, create a stable, harmonious work environment. I feel that I am this kind of person. I am afraid of unpredictable environment. Sometimes I will try to avoid or escape from a situation which I am not so sure about it.

But I think we are all somehow combine some different personalities from DISC. It is hard to find a type perfectly describe a person. Maybe I will choose some different answers and end up with a "D" if I try it again tomorrow. Also, I think people in same cultures or ages will tend to think and act in similar ways in some degree. People in different cultures and ages will have very unlike answers for those questions. So, it is hard to classify people by a same test from so many origins and their choices may vary as they are aging.

VISION

Vision-- "the ability to perceive something not actually visible, as through mental acuteness or keen foresight."

Grown up in a typical Chinese family under a typical Chinese education, I had alwasy been told when I was a kid," you must study hard, and get an A at school!" One of the new year wishes in my family was "hope our daughter can get into XXXX high school," for many years, until I finally did it! So, when I was a kid, my vision was the "A".

Now my first goal is to get my CPA and MS degree as soon as I can. I am working hard on it.
Honestly, I am not born a business person. I don't think I have much "gene" for business world. It sounds so sad for me as a junior at Baruch.

"Vision without action is just a dream.Action without vision merely wastes time."
I still have other visions, which are related to my real life in a business school. But I decided not to put them up here since I've read it thousands of times and start to do something.

decision making

I was so surprised that Prof.Kurpis sat and watched our big chaos in the class instead of being the leader of this debate. From the beginning to the end, we were given very few informations about this discussion. If we were asked to make a choise of curving or dropping the lowest grade, I think it will be much easier to do it. However, Prof. Kurpis gave us the opportunity to find our best solusion, but in the condition of a 100% agreement.

It is impossible to satisfy everyone since we all have different interests and situations, especially during the discussion about the format of our future exam. In this part, i was acting under "avoidance". I know everyone has equal opportunity and the right to compete, to win this debate. But in the very last few minutes we have at the end, we still couldn't have the final picture of our exam formact, and more and more different opinions kept coming out. I chose to accept any final solusion, instead of giving out new ideas. Because I think there is no way to get everyone's agreement on it for their self interests.

bye bye my egg!

This is how we did in our “unbreakable egg drop” in class activity.
First of all, our mission was given by the professor---make a plan to protect our egg from cracking when we drop it onto the floor. It sounds as an impossible job for our brittle and poor egg. However, that was our goal! Since we were getting into the planning process together, our egg might be able to survive at the end!!
Before we got our actual materials, we knew that we were going to have 8 straws and some tape to finish our job. Everyone in our group had different ideas and ways to design the egg holder. We discussed and drew pictures in paper and tried to come up with the best solution. Finally, we had decision to choose one of those alternative methods. 25 minutes had gone very fast when we were discussed. However, the 10 minute for us to wrap pass much faster. Since there was only one scissors in the classroom, we need to wait other groups to use it. That wasted half of our 10 minutes to get the scissors. Unfortunately, our final egg holder looked a little different from what we drew in the picture in our planning process. Finally, as the shortest person in our group, I was chosen to do the important task----drop the egg!! I was begging for its “life” when I stood on the chair. But I saw it heat the side of trash can and died…
Even though we hadn’t learned the planning chapter before this activity, I find out that we had actually gone through all the steps when I checked back the list of planning process. Planning is a thinking process we always do in our daily lives. It is not only related to management but our everyday lives too. We are failed to protect our egg eventually, but I had a lot fun and enjoyed working with my teammates from the game.

How to say no to the boss?

Do you like your boss?

I think most people will say no to such a question. Employees are always having problem dealing with their supervisors, so am I.
I am currently working in an office as a part-time assistant. I have been holding this job for almost 2 years. We got a new boss about 3 monthes ago. He began to set up new rules and change procedures of the working processes befor he has some senses of what is going on in this office. Eventually, he gives everyone a hard time and slow down the productivity. He keeps push works and responsibility to his people. He calls other full-time workers to run into his room for urgence but they were just told to make a piece of copy, using the machine next to his door. He asked a pregnant worker to pack and move boxes of files for his new room. He doesn'y trust on his people, especially women. Everyone complains behid him. Ton of e-mails were floating around the office aeguing for some little peoblems.
However, he is the boss. He is the one manage the office. How to say no to such a supervisor? What chould we do to disagree without being disagreeable?
